Can I Put A Snow Plow On A Pilot

VII. Saldivar, the end

Ten days before the election, during the first week of September, a late Santa Rosa storm unleashed its force on Buenos Aires and floods took in Independence dimension catastrophe. Slums counted three hundred millimeters of water for several days. Eight hundred families were evacuated. In the middle the water entered the business and ruined merchandise. An old woman and a boy were electrocuted by a fallen power line by the storm. Independence firefighters were not prepared for so much, and rescue operations were hampered because the main streets of the city could only be traversed by boats or makeshift rafts.

Saldivar had intended to keep poor management where only make things more or less well. But such a strategy does not include prevention, or the allocation of resources to emergency situations. Mediocrity does not plan to unforeseen responses, and this storm was not expected of anyone, at least in the town of Independence. Given the confusion and ineptitude that showed not only he but all his administration, Saldivar made a mistake. Looking disengage from social rejection and safe Perida vote, he made one swipe of drowning: reported that the chaos created by the flooding was due to a move by his opponent, before the impending storm, during the early morning rain had sent flood drains and sewers, garbage bags covering them with the deliberate intention that no matter what finally happened. The occurrence of Saldivar had a precedent in his own political career. In 1987, after legislative elections in which try to wear Peronism at the polls radical government, its respect in the party had taken him, then a simple activist, to do this dirty work in the midst of heavy rains that ended the southern suburbs flooded the capital more than usual, leaving the mayor of Buenos Aires in an awkward situation that would take decisive votes.

But in this case no one believed that the ravages of those days were the result of a dirty maneuver opposing candidate. While Saldivar implausible excuses like, Franco Mesa took to make acts of solidarity with the flood, distribute and advertise mattresses and infrastructure. Ran his headquarters acts Merchant Center, churches of all signs, several Clubs and Societies Development. Gradually they began to move away from the disgraced mayor representatives of the forces of Independence.
Withdrawal sank more than anyone thought Saldivar, and it was during this week Voices of Independence newspaper published on its cover a preview of what would eventually become the election result: "You turn the polls. Table, 5 points up. "

* * * Not long ago, Saldivar had thought the most skillful politician to "spare his life" to his electoral rival to pocket a hefty sum in dollars. Now, the Sunday elections, he knew a being vile, inept and defeated. In the midst of a few honks of celebration for the victory of others, that night Saldivar passed alone in his office. There was. With cuffs rolled up and tie loosened at the height of the second button, the line of cut on the glass market desk ready to be snorted, and the glass of whiskey, always half full. ***

spent over a month until Franco Mesa took over as new mayor of Independence. Without power or wanting to resist, during that time Saldivar increased its addiction to cocaine and its consequent need for psychotropic drugs as a counterweight. Rivotril, Lexotanil, Prozac: the Secretary of Health of the municipality that he was getting the recipes had to be changing the presentation of the drug to avoid suspicion. Without dare to talk about the issue directly with Saldivar medical officer cited Lazarus and put it on alert: if the man was using everything he demanded in recipes, and the consumption of white powder would be taking no less than six tablets of 2 milligrams per day. Vomiting and hallucinations became everyday. During that time it was gone and alignment. After each moment of excitement, the anxiety it even more depressed. Lazarus took care of that time in his apartment and office. He also had to cover the backs in the management, negotiating with the opposition a transition, if not worthy, at least discreet. In this they were both sickly during those forty days, repairing only insofar as they are running out of time and still had not stopped to think how to make, without the lost key, the 900 thousand dollars of that damn box of iron that had a short walk from his office, and that challenged to just stay still, pristine, unassailable.
